Workshops at Minneapolis
Anita Ratnam was invited by The Pangea World Theatre to share her movement experience with a
group of professional actors at Minneapolis in June 1999.
Using her knowledge of yoga, Anita dissected the "surya namaskar" ("salutation to the sun"), a
popular yoga exercise, to examine the relationship between breath and voice and explore the
concept of contact improvisation in group choreography.
The workshop also sought to give the artistes a greater sense of awareness of their presence on
stage. Dipankar Mukerjee, Director, Pangea World Theatre, enthused at the end of the session,
"This has opened my mind to a whole new way of moving. I'm so excited with the possibilities of
how I can use my group of actors for our next production."
